Fighting for kids

Public Health Nurse

As a Public Health Nurse, Grace has served economically and racially-diverse communities throughout Nevada, Placer, and Yolo counties. She’s worked closely with county health officers and as a medical liaison between patients and doctors. Grace went to college at Fresno State University, where she earned her RN, Bachelor of Science degree, and Public Health Nurse certificate. She began her nursing career serving women and newborns in Labor and Delivery before becoming a Public Health Nurse in Placer County.

As a Public Health Nurse, Grace visited pregnant and parenting teens to provide health and parenting education. Recognizing the severe lack of dental care in low-income populations, Grace launched the first dental program for the underserved in Placer County. She also created partnerships with local hotels and casinos to provide patients free transportation to their dental appointments.

Grace was also a case manager for children who were severely disabled as a result of lead poisoning. She later became the director of the local lead abatement program to reduce lead exposure in children in low-income neighborhoods.

She was a Public Health Nurse in the Childhood Disability Prevention Program and worked in health clinics serving children as well as teens with mental health issues and struggling with substance abuse.

Health and Safety

As a licensed public health nurse for over 30 years, Grace has already worked closely with county health officials through many public health challenges. Her knowledge of the health industry will benefit the Board of Education by considering both the health and safety of students and school personnel.

Choice in Education

Families should have educational options and a choice in their children’s learning. These options should be provided throughout the Nevada County cohesively from district to district so when there is a policy or legislative change, families can plan easily and without conflict. Grace would like to help unite the Nevada County Board of Education with the various district boards. This unity will help provide solutions to bridge the gap in policy between the districts.

Children and Families

Grace is a dedicated public servant. She provided health education and services to low-income families in three counties. As a parent and educator, she has two decades of experience with special needs children. Currently, she is writing a book on how families can manage distance learning and homeschooling for children of all abilities.

Hudek, a public health nurse, said she decided to run for the board because of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I will definitely be able to help the board and families get through the COVID crisis,”

About  Grace

Nevada County Local

Grace’s Nevada County roots run deep. Her grandparents were born above the bakery in Grass Valley over 100 years ago. Her great aunt was a graduate of the Grass Valley Public High School in 1875 and taught school in Nevada County. Continuing the tradition, Grace’s mother and sister also became credentialed schoolteachers.

Parent and Special Needs Educator

Grace’s four children have attended public, private, and charter schools in Nevada County for more than two decades. Grace has also homeschooled her children with special needs for many years. Grace is currently writing a book to help families managing distance learning and homeschooling children with special needs and advanced disabilities.

Budget Management and Fiscal Responsibilities

Grace and her husband started their own business where Grace has been CEO for over 25 years. Her experience managing large budgets and contracts will be an asset to the school board as it addresses the district’s budget challenges during the ongoing pandemic and any normal school year.
